In keeping with this week’s clever criticisms of the weight loss industry, I have a few more things to get off my chest. ;-)

Here are 6 surefire ways to get off the dieting and weight loss roller coaster for good.

 

1. Throw Your Scale Away

Your scale is keeping you fat! No question about it.

There is an undeniable, irrefutable, commonly-known and accepted law of the universe which states that:

“What you put your attention on, expands.”

If you measure your weight, think about your weight, talk about your weight with your friends, wonder if you’ll ever lose weight and wish you had some other woman’s weight, then guess what you’re going to get?

Exactly.
Weight!

So find something else to put your attention on.  ANYTHING else to put your attention on.

2. Stop Trying To “Lose” Weight

If you’ve grasped the universal principle that what you put your attention on expands, then the next law to learn is the one which suggests:

“What you resist, persists.”

Have you ever noticed that the more you try to avoid something, the more likely you are to bump into it?

When you “lose” your keys, your wallet, your purse, your kids in a shopping mall, etc., the immediate response is to find it again!

The fastest way to lose 10 pounds is to find something other to do than lose 10 pounds. …I’m serious!

Have you ever noticed that the more hyper focused you are on something, the more stressed and concerned and focused you are on something, the harder it is to figure out?

How many great ideas happen when you’re on a walk? In the shower ? Sitting on the toilet?

Sometimes you need to step away from whatever it is you’re trying to address, so you can get some perspective. The more you chase something down, the more likely it is to escape you completely. It’s like a bad date where the person you’re with is just too interested. It’s a total turn off.

Keeping yourself in an obsessive, contracted, desperate relationship with the size of your body and your food will only ever keep you riding the ups and downs of a roller coaster ride you can’t seem to make stop.

If you really want to drop those last 10 pounds, the hard-to-believe truth about it is that you’re going to have to find something better to do than worry about it, no matter how much weight you think you have to “lose”.

(This often has a lot to do with why so many women who suffer with eating disorders have a history of sexual abuse or unhealthy sexual relationships.)

I was sitting at the VIP dinner before the Longevity conference recently and started up a conversation with Steve Race, a film producer and director in Los Angeles. I was talking to him about Body Enlightenment and he got very excited and inspired about the plan.

“You’re going up against the big guns,” he said. “Media WANTS women to feel fat, ugly and insecure and spends millions of dollars making it happen. The truth is that any curvaceous and delicious creature who has the courage to love herself and strut her stuff is a head-turning magnet for admiration and attention.
